For this assignment, the class chose a social issue that they based their artwork on. Students focused on both composition and emphasis as they carefully created a printmaking design. After developing their designs, students worked with printmaking materials to reproduce their images similar to artist, Shepard Fairey's artmaking process. The home-ec students will be turning their t-shirts into tote bags. Below are some examples of the student's artist statement. Students utilized various sentence starters to further explain their artwork and how they used the elements of arts and principles of design to represent their social issue. Students also explained why it important to be an advocate for social issues and how their artwork can make a positive different in their community.

Students will then print them repeatedly on paper of their choosing, as they focus on the elements of art and the principles of designs.STUDENTS DEVELOPED THEIR PRINTMAKING TECHNIQUES, AS THEY TRANSFERRED ABSTRACT DESIGNS ONTO A SQUARE LINOBLOCK AND CAREFULLY CARVED THE NEGATIVE SPACE USING A TOOL CALLED A GOUGE.
