Students will master various skills including watercolor resist and teamwork as they focus on the elements of art and the principles of design. In this lesson, students painted an image derived from nature and focused on the patterns and colors, ultimately abstracting the image. Students disguised their hand in the painting by replicating a part of the painting onto their hand. Students referenced Chinese artist, Liu Bolin, who is known as “The Invisible Man”. Bolin paints his body to match a background or place, thus camouflaging himself. Students will continue to develop their painting skills as they focus on color mixing and color theory. For this lesson, each student will be able to select a still life to draw with the use of multiple mediums. The students will learn about still life paintings and view many different examples by various artists. The student’s final still life should include at least 3 different types of media as students focus on the elements of arts and the principles of design.
For this lesson, each student created sugar skulls inspired by the Mexican Holiday, Day of the Dead. Students were introduced the traditions and culture of the special holiday, while focusing on the elements of art and principles of design as they primarily use clay as their material. |
